We have the accordian folder with the big elastic strap that goes around the whole thing (or the end.) It's better without a zipper. If there's a zipper then there is a 2 second more requirement of time. Obviously a deal-breaker in the fast paced world of the middle school. The zipper won't get zipped (like the backpack) and things will surely start to disappear.

| Speed is critical with 11 year old boys. Elastic strap is fast with a snapping noise on top of it for class disruption or general neighbor girl annoyance. | ||||||||

How does he like the accordion folder? How'd you pick it? (I mean: why the accordion foler & not the zippered binder?) -- CatherineJohnson - 09 Jan 2006

Also -- this is a second grade list. Seems a bit over the top to me, with the huge zipper binder. It's a horror. -- CatherineJohnson - 07 Jan 2006

accordion file for the organized student![]() This is one of the systems Donna Goldberg recommends for middle school kids. She says middle school is getting so much more complicated than it was just 10 years ago that a lot of kids are switching from her preferred system, the zippered binder, to the accordion file. Christopher's zippered binder comes with a small accordion file of its very own. ![]() (this isn't it. this is the zippered binder linked to on MrsKsPlace.) UPDATE 7-23-2006: We've given up on zippered binders. They explode in two weeks. We're using the Globe-Weis Fabric Poly Files now and they work great. Christopher managed to get through 4 months of school with one file. His friend M. has one, too, and all is well. <!--
