"The Click" -- It's Not Just for the Students
I've spoken and written many times about loving to see the "light come on" on a student's face when he "gets it".

I've written a comment on another thread about that subject and I'm moving it here as another page. "Seeing the light come on" is being called "the click" on this thread. Whatever the name, it's that visible outward sign of the inner elation that floods the soul when someone "knows that he knows", when he "gets it". I believe that it is a MUST in a student's learning. It's that intrinsic reward that is even better than praise from another person.

Whatever the name, it's that visible outward sign of the inner elation that floods the soul when someone "knows that he knows", when he "gets it". It might be a huge smile. It might be a loud "Yes". It might be arms and fists pumping. It's that visible evidence of an inner feeling of success.
This inner feeling, I believe, is a MUST in a student's learning, for it is an intrinsic reward, a reward that is far better than any spoken praise from another person. The inner feeling is the student's reward, the "light coming on" is the outer evidence of that inner feeling.

Seeing that on a student's face is what drives me as a teacher, it's what makes me want to continue when I grow weary in my day. Here are my thoughts on "the click".
