Kristy's first grade teacher was the one who suggested the behavior modication plan, and we were happy to try it. She was a seasoned teacher--very caring and compassionate. I often think about how lucky we were that Kristy had her for first grade. Kristy was being taught to mastery; but it was her overall anxiety and need for perfection that was causing her to need lots of reassurance.
Megan, our younger daughter, has a very different personalitiy. She is confident and self-assured, and has been from the beginning. However, she wasn't being taught arithmetic to mastery, and while she wasn't particularly concerned, as parents, we certainly were. Kumon provided the foundation for Algebra.
