I've got to look it over more carefully.

It's a free site, and I think may be run by students for students...so I'm guessing that may be an editorial comment on the value of the new SAT essay...

Sorry. Don't know how I could have missed that one. But somehow it makes sense that a website like that one would be into something like that. Maybe they're trying to reach a certain demographic who I really don't care to meet.

Quantitative comparisons; well I'm confused because I thought the new SAT was going to get rid of them.

But what they are is, for simplicity's sake, a question that is presented in two columns.

Column A says 2 Column B says 4

Your choices are A: Column A > Column B B: Column B > Column A C: Column A = Column B D: Cannot be determined from information given

SOmething like that anyway. There's a method for doing them quickly and efficiently.

I really don't like SAT prep classes mainly because I'm sorry that it has grown into such an industry. When I tutor high school students I may point out to them what things are likely to be on the SAT math exam, just to get them familiar with short cuts. Like 30-60-90 triangles, rt triangles with sides that are Pythagorean triples (3,4,5; 5, 12, 13), things like that. Some teachers give assignments with multiple choice questions that are prep for SAT. I may help with short cuts like which answers to eliminate immediately. But other than that, I like to teach the math they need to know in order to understand the subject, not necessarily to get a good score on the SAT, because the two are not necessarily the same. (SAT II for math is a different story, but I"m talking about SAT I).

OK, so I was looking for a jpg to illustrate the concept of stupid SAT questions, when I came across a site called Free SAT Prep.

Check out the left hand column:

  • Discussion Topics
  • Ask Admissions Consultants
  • What happens if there is mistake in application
  • Cornell to begin accepting the common application
  • SAT Test

Then there's the last one.

pls xplain

update

They've changed the link.

Here it is, if you're interested.

Looks like they have one of those new site thingies (word retrieval failure) that automatically slots a commenter's essay into the sidebar every day.

wrong again

It's not a spoof. It's real. This is a real news article. (scroll down)
