Both my kids are doing Singapore math this summer. My son is on 3B. I can't post a picture like you do, but you might want to check this out. He is working on converting km to m and vice versa. They had a wonderful little exercise where he had to match the number of meters that make 1 km. For example, he had a dot with 320m and he had to match it to the dot that said 680m. What I love about this exercise is that he has to do mental mathematics. He has to know to add 80m to 320m to get to 400m, then add 600 more meters to get the answer. This is exactly the way that you have to make change for money. So he is practicing mental mathematics, learning to make change and converting meters to kilometers. I love this program!!

In fact, teaching young children to build the next set of math facts on the math facts they already know is a good idea.

I'm pretty sure Parker & Baldridge recommend this approach (I'll check).
