This would embarrass Christopher, so I'm putting it here, in the Comments.

If you want to get a sense of how well the Shangri-La diet is working for him, compare this picture to this one.

We're pretty sure he hasn't grown at all since that photo was taken.

Of course, now I'm worried the diet is stunting his growth....

I love it!

Left to right: Jimmy, Bernie, Colin, Andrew, Catherine, Christopher, Ed, Carolyn, Ben.

Christian took the picture. Abby and Surfer were around our feet somewhere.

Catherine and Ed live in an area that's so heavily treed you feel as though you're in a forest. It's wonderful.

Hey everyone - I'm off to Illinois for a week!

-- CatherineJohnson - 13 Aug 2006

what. they don't have computers in illinois?
it sure has been mighty dead around here ...

-- VlorbikDotCom - 18 Aug 2006

FYI--I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Catherine, Ed, Jimmy and Andrew this week while they were in Illinois. We got together at a local McDonald?'s as they were traveling from one location to the next. It was wonderful to meet them all in person!!

Carolyn--

BTW, Catherine happened to mention that Bernie is from Kansas. Both hubby and I are as well.

-- KarenA - 18 Aug 2006

Hey Karen,

where in Kansas are you both from? Bernie's from Wichita.

That's cool that you met up with them! We spent a couple days with them -- it was a blast. We also got together one evening in NYC near Grand Central station -- I have a picture of us from that evening as well, but I need to crop out a portion of Catherine's dress (heh heh heh). Did you get pictures at McDonald?'s? Soon we'll have a whole gallery!

-- CarolynJohnston - 22 Aug 2006

Carolyn,

I'm from Madison--it's 20 miles south of Emporia and about 90 miles east of Wichita. Is Bernie by chance a Kansas Jayhawk?

I had a fleeting thought that I should bring a camera, but I didn't act on it. Bummer!

-- KarenA - 22 Aug 2006

Bernie is indeed a Jayhawk!

That's an awesome photo! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!

BTW, did anyone catch the story last week about the young man from Wichita, Kansas (Bishop Carroll High School) who scored a perfect score last spring/summer on both the ACT and the SAT?

-- KarenA - 23 Aug 2006

Both my parents were KU grads. I've spent a bit of time in McPherson?,where my Mom grew up.

-- BenCalvin - 23 Aug 2006

I grew up in Garden Plain, Kansas--just about 14 miles west of Wichita. Holy crap!

I had no idea we had that in common. It's nice to finally put a face to CJ's name too. Not too surprised on this end. Although I did picture you as "more" brunette. And in my mind the hair was shorter : )

That explains a great deal! (heheheh) As best I've been able to characterize Kansans, I've come to think of them as quirky and brilliant.

And um, which CJ had shorter brunette hair, or did we both? My hair is usually longer than it is in this picture, and um, it's sometimes not that color.

-- CarolynJohnston - 27 Aug 2006

Oh, right. I meant you, Carolyn. I had already seen a picture of Catherine--Christmas pic a while ago.

Have I missed reading the reason why KTM hasn't been updated since the 12th?

-- JdFisher - 27 Aug 2006

Not sure what's going on Catherine's end --

on my end, I am totally swamped

I hope everything is okay.

-- CarolynJohnston - 30 Aug 2006

"As best I've been able to characterize Kansans, I've come to think of them as quirky and brilliant."

As a native Kansan, I'm pretty sure that a lot of folks would say that I'm "quirky," but might not agree with the "brilliant" part. : )

Catherine has some family stuff going on. She didn't tell me much, but said she would let us know soon. I haven't heard from her since, though, which is disconcerting.

"California is filled with people who are prematurely blonde."

-- CatherineJohnson - 18 Sep 2006

That's my story.

Half the women we knew in CA dyed their hair blonde after having blonde kids - and in CA all kids are blonde.

Seriously.

Our friends who were themselves brunette & Jewish had blonde kids.
