no common sense-y redux

So far this Christmas season the kids and I have not seen:

  • the topiary lights at the Botanical Garden

  • the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree

  • the laser light show at Grand Central

Now we have a strike.

I think I'm going to take the kids into the city anyway. I can do that, because I have no common sense-y.

The real question is, can I force Ed to come with me?

Answer: almost certainly not.

I bet Christian would do it. I'll get to him tonight.

After I spent 3 hours standing in line at the Ringside Fest so he and Christopher could get Kurt Angle's autograph, he owes me.

Be warned it was an unholy mess on Tuesday.

I was wondering if you were there for the action.

Unholy mess is my middle name.

-- CatherineJohnson - 21 Dec 2005

That and RUTHLESS.

Yes I caught it. I had to get from 47th and Lex to Penn station and had to resort to a gypsy cab. Talk about fun.

When we were coming out of Ringside Fest, we bumped into a mom and a very sweet, very nerdy little boy, maybe about 9 years old, with thick Coke-bottle lenses....

He was in a state of Carlito-induced rapture, and the mom said, 'That was the most fun standing in line for 3 hours I've ever had.'

I figure if I take all 3 kids to Grand Central in the middle of a Christmas transit strike I'll have a point of comparison.

What's a gypsy cab?

Same thing as the cabs in the Bronx?

-- CatherineJohnson - 21 Dec 2005

Yes. You know, you're not quite sure it's a cab or not. No meter. Even less English language abilities than usual. The fare was "how much do you want to pay?" Luckily, I knew the right answer because I took a yellow cab between the exact same spots the day before.

Apparently South Koreans have even less common sense-y than Americans.

The weather looks nice there.

-- CatherineJohnson - 21 Dec 2005

Roads into the city were completely backed up here yesterday at noon.
